The Joint-Eater, or Alp-Luachra, is a diminutive faerie found in the Hibernia, Stonehenge, and Loch Leglean Tribunals. He likes to steal food from the mouths of his host, literally. His usual tactic is to crawl into a sleeping man’s mouth and set up residence in the man’s throat. Using his faerei powers he makes the man hungry, and then destroys the food as it passes down the man’s gullet so that he never actually eats anything. Once the power that makes a man hungry wears off, the man will be really hungry, starving even, and will want to eat more. But as he does, the Joint-Eater destroys the food.

The Joint-Eater won’t let a man starve to death, since then it would need to find a new home. It allows just enough food to remain so that the man survives. He will begin to look emaciated, making his friends and family wonder what is going on. How can a man who eats constantly keep losing weight?

According to folk doctors, the only way to remove a Joint-Eater is for the afflicted to eat vast quantities of salted beef without drinking anything, and then lay next to a brook with his mouth open. Parched, the Joint-Eater will slip out of the victim’s mouth to quench its thirst, and at the point it can be captured or killed.

Story Seed: The king is traveling from house to house and eating his nobles’ larders clean. The local baron suspects that the king is possess by a demon of gluttony and asks the covenant for aid. The king is planning a visit to the baron’s castle and the baron would like the magi there. Armed with their best demon-fighting spells, the magi will certainly be surprised at the little man living in the king’s mouth.
