The Author

I’m Matt Ryan. I’ve been freelance writing for Atlas Games since 2004, when three of my proposals for Living Lore: The Sourcebook of Medieval Legend were accepted and published. Since then I’ve written several contributions for the Ars Magica Fifth Edition line.

I grew up liking myths and legends, especially the Greek myths and stories of the Trojan War. Scandinavian and Irish myths were even better, more brutal and primordial. The Greek gods had that culture-thing, while the Norse deities dressed in drag and killed giants, and  the Celtic gods got drunk, got lost, and chopped off heads. As a boy I loved European history, and I remember happily memorizing the names of all the ruling  kings and queens of England. I don’t remember that list anymore. In the mid to late 70’s I started playing Dungeons and Dragons, and I still remember saving my money in anticipation of the Dungeon Masters Guide‘s release. Still have that book. That cemented my fate, and I’ve been a role-playing, myth-loving, armchair historian every since.
